What is a website?
A website is all of the seen and unseen components contained for a business online. There is a user-facing component that contains the visual layout, user interface (UI), and interactive elements that users interact with directly in their web browsers, as well as content, settings, code, and database behind the scenes.
A website allows visitors and customers to find you online.
Why do I need a website?
A website is simply an extension of your business. It helps add legitimacy to your brand and if you want to reach more clients, customers, or visitors, a website can help you do that by making you available at the click of a button. Furthermore, a website that is put together intuitively and customer-focused can help keep your website visitors on your site longer and help convert them to customers.
What is website hosting?
Website hosting is what makes your website available on the internet. A hosting account stores all the technical pieces of a website and houses all of the website information, content, and files. You don’t need to know how it works but you have to have hosting in order to have a website. You can get everything you need to get your website going with a hosting package.
What do I need to do prior to getting a website?
You need three things for a website: a domain (URL of website), web hosting (where the files and content live), and an SSL certificate (website security). You can get all three together with a hosting package. Depending on your needs (how big your site is and amount of traffic you think you will have) you can choose either the basic hosting package or the most extensive package, however, all come with at least one domain and an SSL certificate.
You also need to create a Google my Business account and get your business up on Google so people can find your business when searching and you can receive reviews.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for search engine optimization and is a method of optimizing website content to improve its quality and quantity to target free/ unpaid traffic from search engines.
This means updating content in a way that answers your customers’ questions and includes the content that they would be looking for. If this (along with other factors) is done correctly, it is more likely for your site to show up in search results when a user types in a relevant keyword into a search engine.
Keep in mind that it takes a while for a new website to build credibility so results are not always immediate.
What is on-site SEO?
This refers to optimizing content within a website in order to rank higher in search results.
What is off-site SEO?
This refers to external (not directly on your website) actions to positively impact search result rankings, such as getting linked to from other popular/authoritative websites or sources (such as social media).

How do I get to the top of search results?
Basically, there are two options. Paid and organic.
Paid is quicker but organic is considered to be better because it’s free and means people are finding your website without you having to pay for them to find you.
However, to get to the top organically it takes a while (usually at least a minimum 3 months) and is based on many different factors based on your site’s authority (the value a search engine assigns a web page – the higher the value, the more likely the search engine will return a web page in organic search results).
The longer a website is up and the better quality the content is, the more authority it has. If people are finding your content to be relevant to what they’re looking for and spending time on your site rather than clicking and realizing they were misled (clickbait), it will help your rankings.
Basically, the content has to be optimized to what people are searching for, which means it contains keywords that they would normally be typing into a search engine and search engines want the keyword to be IN the content a minimum of 2%.
When your site is being developed and your content is being added, basic SEO, such as determining and getting the focus keyphrase and description set up for each page and adding alt tags to images, is included. We also create and set up a Google Analytics account and connect it to your site so you can see how people are spending time on your site – are they getting there and bouncing, are they submitting a contact form or contacting you, or are they going through the site for a while? You can see if and when they’re dropping off or not. Small Business Web Pro also creates a Google Search Console account and submit a sitemap with all of the site’s pages included so that google can start indexing your site.
It’s important to determine what your goals are, ie what keywords you want to rank for or what users will type in to find your site. Then the website copy needs to focus on that information and include the relevant keywords.
